Biyografi

Dr. Ekin Kozal, born in Nicosia, Cyprus, attained her degrees in Archaeology, culminating in a PhD in 2006 from Eberhard Karls University Tübingen, an MA from Bilkent University in 1999, and a BA from Ankara University in 1996, following her graduation from Türk Maarif Koleji/Nicosia in 1992. Throughout her academic journey, she was honored with fellowships from Bilkent, DAAD, and Studia Troica.

Since 2004, she has been a faculty member at the Department of Near Eastern Archaeology at Çanakkale University. Additionally, she serves as an associate researcher at the Near Eastern Archaeology Department of Bern University. Recently, she held a research position at Albert-Ludwigs-University Freiburg, Department of Near Eastern Archaeology, supported by the Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship for experienced researchers.

Dr. Kozal has conducted extensive research on pottery across various projects in Turkey, ranging from the west coast (Troy) to the Syrian border (Alalakh). Her expertise primarily focuses on the study of cultures and interactions in the Eastern Mediterranean during the Middle and Late Bronze Ages. Her investigations in southern Turkey, including sites such as Kilise Tepe, Gözlükule, Tepebağ, Sirkeli Höyük, Kinet Höyük, and Alalakh, center on both local and imported pottery, with a particular emphasis on chronology. She employs the analysis of material circulation and shared stylistic elements as methods to explore connections amidst shifting political hegemonies and social structures. Notably, her research extensively addresses the presence of Middle and Late Cypriot imported pottery in Anatolia.

Dr. Kozal's study on Red Lustrous Wheel-made ware from Kilise Tepe has provided significant insights into its production processes from an Anatolian perspective, consequently enriching the interpretation of its distribution within the Eastern Mediterranean context. Furthermore, her collaboration with geologist Mustafa Kibaroğlu on provenance studies and production technologies of various pottery types adds an interdisciplinary dimension to her work.

In addition to being the author of a book and the editor of two volumes, Dr. Kozal has contributed numerous book chapters and journal articles to the field of archaeology.
